Pinnacle of Design

SlideshowThe 10th Annual American Society of Furniture Designer's (ASID) Pinnacle Awards were handed out at the fall furniture market in High Point, N.C. to recognize designers whose home furnishings are available in the States. Contemporary designs made a good showing, winning six of 15 categories. Canada's Normand Couture took the honor for his Cameleon "Slideshow," which the judges said was "sophisticated contemporary and engaging, incorporating multiple seating configurations." For Couture, who was surprised that a Canadian could win, the award came just several months after he received the Canadian Home Furnishings Award -- his third in a row.
The contemporary designers honored were:
  • Normand Couture, "Cameleon" for Sofa's International (Moveable Upholstery)
  • Frank Spano & Thom O'Leary -- Tachi Server (Occasional Storage)
  • Goodman/Charleton -- Nicole Chair for John Charles Design (Stationary Upholstery)
  • George Chandler -- Stasis Floor & Table Lamp Group for Hubbardton Forge (Lighting)
  • Richard Frinier -- Gulf Stream for Century (Summer/Casual)
  • Dean Maltz -- "Spats" for Allan Copley Designs
